You might be inspired to go on a hunt if you are feeling the need to get out in the woods. 74% Americans support hunting. And many of these stories are very inspiring. Ernest Hemingway is a writer and a fan of giant marlins. He spent his winters in Key West Florida, fishing for these magnificent creatures. Today, hunting is the primary form of recreation for millions around the world.

Jim Corbett

While he was an avid hunter and a member of the British Royal family, Jim Corbett spent most of his life in India, living among the poor people of the Himalayan foothills and labourers of Mokameh Ghat. He was also an officer in the Bengal and Northwestern Railway and worked for the railway company from the late 1890s to the beginning of the First World War. Jim Corbett wrote many books, in addition to his hunting adventures.

A former student of Oak Openings School, Corbett was an expert hunter and had a penchant for tracking. Corbett was just 18 when he left school to work for the Bengal and North Western Railway. When the Champawat Tiger started killing in Nepal, the government asked Corbett to intervene and kill the deadly predator. Corbett succeeded in his mission, and the tiger was killed in the jungle. Corbett was able, in addition to hunting, to increase awareness of wildlife issues and gave lectures on conservation.

Cody Hemingway

American hunters are some of history's most famous, including Buffalo Bill Cody. Buffalo Bill was a well-known buffalo runner, who killed over 4000 bison during his career. In addition to his hunting skills, he was also well-known as the first American who shot a buffalo using a trapdoor Springfield Model 1866. In fact, he beat out a Henry repeater during a shooting contest. Despite his achievements, buffalo hunting is prohibited today.

Ernest Hemingway stayed once in Cody at the Chamberlin Inn while he was in Wyoming. He went with Jack, his son, and Pauline his second spouse. Then he decided that he would visit Cody's L Bar T cattle ranch. While visiting the inn, the current owner found a signed register in its basement. Hemingway Suite was also named in his honor by the current owners.

St. George Littledale

Legend has it St. George Littledale hunted down a tur once in the Canadian Arctic. Littledale became frustrated by the misty mountains that covered the area and stopped him seeing the tur. Littledale and his companions waited for Littledale to return to the camp every morning, but they were unable to locate it because of the mist. The tur was eventually located on a high ledge in the mountains. Littledale and his guide had been waiting since the early morning hours. Littledale had already woken at two in the morning and was back home by eight o'clock in the evening.

St. George Littledale is a famed hunter who never killed a wolf. It was too big for him to handle and he had to return to camp. He didn't let this stop him from writing a book on wolves. He had no idea the ram would prove so dangerous and that hunters could survive in such situations. Littledale's personal life is included in the book. Littledale was inspired by his Arctic expedition and his love to animals while writing this book.
